Concrete failure, inadequate design, poor quality construction, structural and fire damage, change of use and the need to accommodate increased loading, have all influenced the growing interest. This in turn has spawned the development of a number of new systems, with traditional methods involving additional reinforced concrete or heavy steel plates are now being supplemented by fibre reinforced polymers (FRPs).
